Brassica Campestris & Juncea

Brassica Campestris & Juncea

Brassicas are the largest and most diversified seed crop produced by South Pacific Seeds NZ Ltd. We specialize in the production of hybrid Chinese cabbage, mustard, pak choi, choi sum, mizuna, mibuna, komatsuna and turnip. Our company has experienced field staff that carry out the necessary field practices to give good quality hybrid seed, by ensuring isolation, trimming if necessary to provide good flowering nick, and control of bee numbers. All crop information is passed to the field agronomists and any problems or specific varietal characteristics are recorded for future reference and customer information.

The Canterbury Plains is an ideal location to produce high quality brassica seed. The cooler inland conditions in the spring help to vernalise more difficult varieties and the warm summers allow for good harvesting conditions. Fields can be direct sown, transplanted or both depending on the crops needs.

Many new varieties have been introduced to the area with success. Fields are planted from mid August to late September and later for tropical varieties.
