History

After a chance encounter with an Australian company on the roadside of his home farm while harvesting evening Primrose, John McKay was given his first opportunity to produce hybrid vegetable seed. In 1993 John McKay was asked to set up a specialist hybrid vegetable seed production company and began the South Pacific Seeds New Zealand Ltd’s journey by multiplying seven crops in the Canterbury district of the South Island whilst operating from his home farm. South Pacific Seeds NZ Ltd grew rapidly and in 1997 a seed cleaning facility and offices were built. Two seed cleaners were installed.

South Pacific Seeds NZ Ltd has continued to expand in the local economy as well as providing unique opportunities to the local arable farmers.  South Pacific Seeds NZ Ltd has also made its mark in the international market for providing consistent quality and reliable vegetable
seed multiplication.
